UC SANTA CRUZ BASKETBALL

Thank you for taking the time to look at UC Santa Cruz Basketball. We feel that we offer a "unique" college experience as one of the top ranked academic schools in the nation and an up and coming force at the NCAA DII level.

The first thing that may stand out to you is our memorable mascot, the Banana Slug. Some may think this is an odd representative of an athletic program, but to those of us on campus it describes the "unique" qualities of our University. Slug Life!

WHAT MAKES UC SANTA CRUZ UNIQUE?

From an academic perspective, UC Santa Cruz offers an experience that cannot be duplicated by NCAA Division III schools.

With a campus that sits on 2,000 acres of land and an undergraduate enrollment of 16,000 students, broken down into 10 smaller colleges within the "University Umbrella," we have the largest student body as well as the biggest campus of any Division III team nation wide.

What does this mean for you?

From an academic perspective, this means a diverse selection of academic opportunities. With 63 different undergraduate degrees, there is an academic program for every interest. From a social perspective, you receive the best of both worlds, a large and diverse student body as well as small class sizes and close relationships with professors and faculty.

In addition to a large student body and campus, UC Santa Cruz is the only "University of California" to offer an NCAA DIII athletic program. While you may not have the opportunity to play hoops for a Division I powerhouse like UCLA or CAL, you can still play college basketball and get a "University of California" education at UC Santa Cruz.

Yet another thing that sets UC Santa Cruz apart, is its proximity to the Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area. At roughly a 30 minute drive from campus, the Silicon Valley plays host to some of the largest corporations in the world Facebook, Ebay and Google. This tech-centric area offers the highest amount of tech jobs per capita in the world, with an average salary of $138,000.

San Francisco, roughly an hour drive from campus, offers the numerous exciting opportunities made available by a big city, including professional sports teams, internship and job opportunities and tourist locations.

THE ACADEMICS SOUND GREAT, BUT WHAT ABOUT THE BASKETBALL?

Under second year Head Coach Ron DuBois, the Banana Slugs are an up and coming national force at the Division III level.

With experience at every major basketball level, including the NBA, Euroleauge and NCAA DI, DuBois and his staff know what it takes to play at the highest level.

It is every players goal to "get better," and no NCAA Division III school offers more knowledge and opportunity to do so than at UC Santa Cruz.

As an independent, non-conference school, UC Santa Cruz has the freedom to seek the top Division III competition on the West Coast. This includes trips to Washington, Oregon, Southern California and even Texas in search of top competition. Additionally, UC Santa Cruz plays at least one Division I opponent each year, offering a chance to play against the highest level of competition.

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

There is an abundant amount of information that describe our University and basketball program, giving us confidence when we say that we are the most "unique" opportunity to play basketball and receive an education.

Perhaps the most important thing to be discovered is the "uniqueness" of you! Do you have the drive, determination and strength of will to succeed at UC Santa Cruz?

Do you have what it takes to be a Banana Slug!!!
